Another Barfday!

Greetings,

I am sure we all hope Peter Wilkins may have an enjoyable 75th birthday
today.

11 July 1951 fell on a Wednesday, in the rhyme I seem to remember it says:

"Wednesday's child is full of woe"

I sincerely hope this has not been true for Peter.

My birthday also fell on a Wednesday and I don't believe the rhyme is true
for me either.

Happy birthday Peter and hope you are able to enjoy some kind of
celebration.

All these posts about being born on a Wednesday, reminded me of something I heard on radio 2 earlier this week which was surprisingly close to this topic.

 

The stand in presenter on DJ Spoonie's late night Groove programme, made a seemingly passing reference to a word relating to a word, which relates to children from Ghana who happen to be born on a Wednesday. At the time of listening, I was struck by how similar this word sounded to 'Cuckoo', as in the bird, but gave the matter little more thought until reading today's chain of emails on this list.

 

Having just done a bit of on-line probing with the help of AI, it transpires that among the Akan peoples of Ghana in particular, a male child born on the Wednesday will feature the word Kwaku as part of their name, while the female equivalent is either Akua, or Ekua.

 

For what it might be worth, I happened to end up being born on a Friday. "End up being born?" Now there's an oxymoron if ever there was one.
