The i-Reader 2
The power of the i-Reader 2 lies in its simplicity. A desktop scan-and-read
device, it's designed to allow the utmost ease of use for blind and
low-vision users. Multiple features strategically rely on users' hearing and
sense of touch.
First, users will know the camera arm is raised to the right reading
position when they hear it click. The surface on which users place reading
material is marked in each corner with tactile lines. Once those pieces are
ready, users simply press the play button and sit back while the i-Reader 2
scans and reads their document aloud to them.
For their narrator, so to speak, users can choose between natural-sounding
male and female voices that speak up to 12 languages. (Users can easily
adjust reading speed and volume as well.)
For private reading in a public library or coffee shop, users can plug in
their headphones on the side of the machine. It also has a USB port for
importing and exporting documents.
The i-Reader 2 is currently available through INDATA's Equipment Lending
Library. In addition to the device, the loan comes with a carrying case and
two-pronged power cord. For more information about this device, check out
