Greetings,

Interesting, Dave D, comments please?

I've yet to start on 2025, have 2024 on my system but still using 2022.

I am aware must contact Sight and Sound before the end of October 2025,
concerning future licenses Etc.

From the Tech-VI list owner:

It needs to be stated that JAWS 2026 is not available as of this writing.
This was captured from freedomsci.de, which appears to be FS's Netherlands
branch. I used my browser's native translation feature to translate the text
from German into English.

What's new in JAWS 2026?
JAWS 2026 includes many new features and improvements described on this
page. To find out more, read the entire page What's new?, or press JAWS
button+F6to open a list of all headings so you can jump to a specific topic.

To learn more about new features and updates in previous JAWS versions, read
the What's New in JAWS website and select a previous version from the
existing links.

Page summary to quickly summarize web pages using AI
The new AI Page Summary feature gives you an instant overview of each
website so you can decide how best to navigate it. Once a page is fully
loaded, press INSERT+SHIFT+E (DETENT+SHIFT+E for laptop keyboards), and JAWS
briefly summarizes the layout of the page, describes its main content, and
provides helpful tips for efficient navigation, including keyboard
shortcuts.

Key benefits of AI Page Summary include:

Faster orientation on complex pages by quickly understanding what a page
contains without having to navigate element by element.
Get navigation tips tailored to the current page so you can find the
information you want more quickly. For example, on a page containing
multiple areas and some tables, this could include a summary of the contents
of each area and table, as well as the shortcuts to switch between areas and
commands to switch to and interact with the table data.
Ask the AI page summary directly follow-up questions about the current page
for more details about specific elements or content. For example, if you are
on a page with a long article, you can ask AI Page Summary to briefly
summarize the article and highlight the key points, or view the entire
article, but without surrounding content such as advertising or other
elements that are not directly related to the main text are related and
could interrupt the flow of reading.
Similar to Talking Image AI and FSCompanion, AI Page Summary opens in the
JAWS Results Viewer, allowing you to read the summary, review tips, or
continue the conversation seamlessly.

Availability of AI page summary
The availability of the AI page summary depends on the active JAWS license.

Graphics identifier AI now enabled by default
The AI graphic identifier is no longer tested as a function of the preview
program and is now the default setting for labeling elements in JAWS 2026.

One often comes across application windows or web pages that contain
inaccessible elements without appropriate labels, which limits usability for
screen reader users. The AI identifier helps reduce these limitations by
taking a screenshot of the currently focused element, presenting it to an AI
model for analysis, and attempting to provide a more meaningful label. This
feature can be applied anywhere as it uses the current window of the active
application and the focused element of the interface.

If an inaccessible item has focus, press INSERT+G. JAWS announces a proposed
graphic name. Currently, JAWS speaks the proposed label, type and, if
present, state of the element. AI-generated labels are also automatically
saved so that the new label is announced every time the item in question
appears.

If you INSERT+G on a web page element that already contains a custom label,
JAWS displays a dialog that contains both the current label and a
replacement suggestion. You can then choose whether the current name should
be replaced by the new one or not.

In situations where you still need to use the old graphic identifier, press
ALT+INSERT+G.

Note: If your company policies prevent the use of online or AI services,
this feature is not available.

The Modern Script Compiler is now the standard for compiling scripts
The Modern Script Compiler is now the standard for JAWS 2026 scripts, and it
paves the way for future improvements in the scripting language. The most
important innovation at the moment is the ability to write clear, logical
expressions to access nested collections. But this also creates the basis
for future improvements. For example, you can now use the following code:

var Collection protocols = CollectionOrArrayFromJsonFile(filePath)
sayString(FormatString("Domain=%1, command=%2,parameter=%3",
protocols.domains[4].domain,
protocols.domains[4].commands[3].name,
protocols.domains[4].commands[3].parameters[1].name))
This allows you to [] And . access elements within nested collections more
intuitively. With every script that uses this compiler in JAWS 2026, you can
look forward to more features and flexibility.

New Java Swing support enabled by default
With JAWS 2026, improved Java Swing support is now standard for all users,
with Java applications using Swing components working just like traditional
Windows programs, offering seamless PC cursor navigation as well as familiar
types of controls. This standard extension simplifies scripting because JAWS
scripts can now be connected to Java applications directly via their name.

For those who may need compatibility with the older Java Access Bridge
method, JAWS 2026 includes a setting in Settings Management under More
Settings within the default for all applications. By disabling the "Enable
Improved Java Swing Support" option and restarting JAWS, users can return to
old support if necessary.

Aria and Web
JAWS now offers the option of jumping directly to mathematical elements on
websites. To use this feature, you can use the Quick Navigation Button
Manager, which runs JAWS Manager from the dialog box (INSERT+F2() is called,
assign a key combination.
In Google Chrome, the performance of JAWS when navigating between cells in
very large tables has been improved.
JAWS now says regions by name by default.
By pressing the APPLICATION BUTTON the correct context menu is now reliably
opened on a link.
When navigating tables, JAWS now displays both headers and column and row
information correctly, even if the table contains span elements.
JAWS will now correctly read progress bars that use the Aria progress bar
reel.
If you put the focus on a table cell in the header that spans multiple
columns, pressing works ALT+CTRL+END now, as expected, to get to the last
cell in the table.
In Google Chrome, the focus is no longer unexpectedly moved to the address
bar or Chrome menu when the focus is on a combo box and the key ESC is
pressed to exit form mode.
LibreOffice
JAWS now displays misspelled words in LibreOffice Writer.
JAWS now reads using language and Braille in the Spelling Checker's
LibreOffice Writer dialog window, which can be accessed by pressing the key
F7 is displayed.
JAWS now displays when text in a LibreOffice document contains a heading
format.
JAWS no longer causes LibreOffice Calc to close unexpectedly when inserting
a sheet or starting certain versions of the application.
If you are in LibreOffice Calc with CTRL+PAGE UP Or SIDE DOWN Switch between
the sheets of a workbook, JAWS now reads out the sheet title.
Braille
The Liblouis Braille translator, which can be used in JAWS and Fusion, has
been updated to version 3.35.0. updated.
JAWS BrailleAdded support for Selvas BLV's eMotion Braille displays. To use
BrailleIn commands via the eMotion Braille display, the Braille display must
be connected via HID.
Other
Opening a folder in File Explorer displays an item called "Processed" until
Windows fills the file list. To avoid unnecessary voice output, JAWS only
outputs the "Processing" message if it is displayed for more than half a
second.
Unnecessary voice output heard while navigating through standard Windows
dialogs has been removed.
JAWS no longer outputs duplicate voice announcements in dialog boxes
containing edit boxes generated with JAWS scripts.
