Greetings,

I am still running W10 on both the laptop and desktop, this morning, I
wanted to use GoldWave sound edditor, to convert a batch of 236 files, these
were placed on a memory stick root. I tried executing the appropriate
GoldWave function which, to my sprprize finished fairly quickly, the action
being taken on 236 files, each of just about 90 minutes, but on checking,
nothing had been converted.

I thought, maybe there was a limit to the number of files GW could convert,
maybe I needed to put them into a folder on the stick rather than on the
root, tried it again having moved them to a folder on the stick, no
difference.

I then had my lunch, which is when I had a thought! Oh yes, eating my lunch
often results in useful thoughts!

I had realized the reason why GW would not convert the files, was, because I
had them all set to read only hence could not overwrite them. Of course, I
could have created a different folder elsewhere by which I assume but don't
know, the read would be ignored when the file was placed by GW's convert
function in the appropriate folder.

No, this was not the answer, is where my knowledge (and certainly in Dave
D's case) will have worked it out.

In dos, there is a command called Attrib, I could not find a way in W10 of
converting all the read attributes to switch read only off, in consequence,
I did the following:

1. Windows key with R, pressed enter.

2. Ignoring the texe which came up, did not move the cursor and typed:

cmd;attrib e:\archers\*.* -r

then on checking the e: drive, discovered the read attribute had, indeed,
been unset because I re-initiated the GW function, which as I write, is
working through the files, I checked the first one and indeed, the change I
required has been successfully made.
