,Greetings,

I've always enjoyed Bob Harris's programs though I rarely listen for a whole
one. I like his smooth way of speaking and approve his knowledge of his
art.

I plan to take the program which seems to be in the Sounds of the Seventies
slot on Radio 2 12 April.

Colin Howard, living in Southern England.

Subject: [UK-Radio-Listeners] BBC Radio 2 celebrates Bob Harris with special
80th birthday programme

March 23, 2026

Bob Harris is being honoured by BBC Radio 2 as he celebrates his 80th
birthday this year.

The legendary presenter, known for his influential music broadcasting
career, will be the focus of a special programme hosted by Zoe Ball,
exploring the key moments that shaped his life and work.

Harris has spent decades championing country, rock and folk music,
becoming one of the most respected voices in UK radio with a style that
has defined late-night listening for generations.

The programme, Bob Harris At 80: A Life In Music, will revisit major
milestones, including launching his first show on BBC Radio 1 in 1970
and presenting The Old Grey Whistle Test from 1972.

Listeners will hear stories from his interviews with global stars such
as John Lennon and The Beach Boys, alongside memories from the early
days of artists including David Bowie and Elton John.

The show also reflects on his role in co-founding Time Out and his later
career highlights, including the launch of his country music programme
on Radio 2 in 1999.

Bob discusses personal challenges, including major health issues, and
receiving an OBE in 2011, as well as his return to a prominent slot
hosting Sounds of the 70s following the death of Johnnie Walker.

Zoe Ball says: “I feel blessed to call Bob a friend. His incredible
stories, from early radio days to The Old Grey Whistle Test and his
Country show, have brought the very best of rock ’n’ roll and country
into our lives.

“He’s a much-loved, one-of-a-kind broadcaster, full of warmth and fun,
and he’s shown remarkable strength and courage through his health
battles – now in the finest form of his life.”

The special programme will celebrate a career that has helped shape the
sound of British radio and introduced generations to new music.

Bob Harris At 80: A Life In Music will air on BBC Radio 2 on 12 April,
3pm – 5pm. It will also be available on BBC Sounds from 6am on 9 April.
