Hello Opera Fans.

Met in HD starts 10/3.  SFO has started with Luisa Miller (http://sfopera.com/Season-Tickets/2015-16-Season/Luisa-Miller.aspx) which doesn't appeal to me.  Sweeney Todd does, and it begins 9/8.

I wait until I see a review of something before I recommend it; no recommendation yet for Sweeney Todd.

As a general rule, if you're interested in SFO, the way to go is Senior Rush.  Why?  Because you get the pick of the house when you buy your ticket for $32 (last season's price) -- which can have a face value of over $300 if all goes well!

However, this only works when there are tickets available  This happens when an opera isn't overly popular, or when tickets are returned to the box office for resale.  So you have to be VERY FLEXIBLE!  You have to call the box office the day before to check availability (415 864-3330) , and keep calling the next day if necessary to convince yourself that it's worth making a trip to the City without an assured ticket.  The later in the day you get to the box office, the fewer leftovers are available.  But, the more returns are available!  So I plan to get there ~5 PM, buy a ticket, and have supper/dinner.  Several other people are comfortable with this, so I seldom go alone.

Remember:  Operas tend to be LONG!  They often don't get over until after 10 PM.  Then there's the hour-long-drive home.

I can drive, and take up to 3 other people.  Car pooling is not only convenient, it's fun.  Other drivers are always welcome to volunteer.

'Nuff said until it's time to make concrete plans.

Cheers,

Dick
