Anyone have any questions on studying for this years exam? Questions
on beginning the application? :)

I saw on another discussion thread something about an exam guide - is
this something different than the current study guide? and when will
it be available?

Karen,

I was told the new study guide may be out this spring. I heard around

Just starting the application process for the 2013 exam :)
A coworker had told me that the cases submitted on the log needed to
exhibit at least 2 of the skills on the list, true?
Also, I work 3 day weeks (14hr) at a night and weekend only clinic,
therefore I'm finding that many of my durations are cut short
(transfer to rDVM or specialist)...any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Courtney,
I have never heard the specific rule that each log should have two skills, but if you look at your cases as far as quality and acceptability if they contained two skills you should be okay. It is a good rule of thumb when you are finalizing what cases you will use.
I would still collect your shorted cases as long as you are spending enough time with them to show you had a significant part in their care. Sometimes the initial check in and stabilization portion of a patients care is the most in-depth. The logs cases don't have to be three day cases or even 14 hour cases.

the amount of time the patient was there doesn't matter - one of the cases I wrote up was only in our care for 6 hours before being euthanized, but I did a lot of stuff in those six hours! I work at an after hours emergency clinic - so 12 hour nights and weekends - and it is possible to find cases where you've been involved enough and performed enough skills to be able to write up a good case report.
Good luck!

So would "transfer" be an acceptable ending to the case or would I
need to follow up with the appropriate clinic?

Where is says "outcome" I think it's fine to say "unknown" - most of mine I did follow up with RV just because I really wanted to know, especially on cases I was writing up - but it's not necessary, I think the committee realizes it might not always be possible to find out, depending on where patient gets transferred to.

You do not need to know the outcome of the case...transfer to rDVM is
perfectly acceptable. Time working on the case is not really an issue.
It has more to do with how you were involved in that period of time.
