"A picture is worth a thousand words", or so one might agree
seeing the following photo of grinning children at the Meher
English School at Meherabad. The occasion is "Teachers Day",
observed all over India when pupils show appreciation for
their teachers. Following "Teachers Day" comes a day of
"self-government" when the older students assume the role of
teachers, here seen instructing younger classes.
As you probably know, 88 years ago Beloved Baba started the
Hazrat Babajan High School at Meherabad, which was followed
by other schools established under His orders and for His
Work in the 1920s. Obviously Baba wished education to
continue in His Name at Meherabad, as the creation of
schools is one of the objects specified in His Trust Deed.
At Meher English School, there are currently 26 teachers and
900 students from lower Kindergarten through tenth standard
(grade). We hear from the principal that His atmosphere, His
guidance, and a Baba-family feeling at the school inspire
the teachers and staff to do their best.
For many poor, rural parents, the opportunity for their
children to study in an English-medium accredited school
almost completely free of cost, with well-conducted
classes, a computer lab, a library, and other facilities
such as safe transportation (and clean water to drink!) is
rare. But to study in this unique school at Meherabad with
Avatar Meher Baba's photos in every classroom and surrounded
by His atmosphere, is the children's greatest chance of all.
