Dear Abu Saleh

Greetings from Pune!

We are happy to announce the beginning of a new One Year Certificate Programme in Acting and Theatre, (Full Time as well as Part Time), starting from July 2014. The course will be conducted by MIDAS in association with IAPAR (International Association for Performing Arts and Research). The programs will be conducted in Pune, India.

Midas is an organisation dedicated to foster, encourage & incubate Management, Innovation, Design, Arts & Social Sciences. In India on now, there is no dearth of talent, ideas and most importantly opportunities. However as many budding artists have come to realise, just having a talent is simply not enough. For instance being creative or having an original idea is only “half the battle” so to speak.

A true artist must be able to step back and view oneself with a sense of critical detachment as well as analyze one’s own work. Most successful people reach the pinnacle because of sheer hard work and persistence. It is only then that they are said to possess a “MIDAS touch”. Proper education can help an individual to acquire the “MIDAS touch” faster. For this we have formulated a specific curriculum and pedagogy which focuses on the 360 degree development of an individual and trains them to become an innovative, creative thinking artist.

IAPAR (International Association for Performing Arts and Research) is a network of artists and arts professionals seeking to exchange ideas, increase opportunity within the arts and connect all within it. IAPAR is a network for all – actors, arts academicians, cultural curators, art connoisseurs – and it offers a rare opportunity for an exchange and dialogue across the world of the arts. IAPAR tries to combine three sides of the performing arts, the artists / performers, academicians as well as the audience. This network is a brave step towards trying to look at multiple aspects of performing arts in one frame work. This kind of network offers more interaction across the disciplines. The interdisciplinary approach is a reality in this network. IAPAR aims to look at the experiential understanding of an artist and articulate it in such way that it contributes to the world of ‘knowledge’ as well.

The vision of this programme is to disseminate knowledge, promote appreciation and provide training by encouragement of innovation in the field of arts within India, by interaction with the arts of other countries and collaboration with arts institutions the world over. We have already formed valuable relationships with many organizations, both in India and abroad.

The one year full time programme has combined practical work with a strong grounding in interdisciplinary approach. It offers multiple practical classes, workshops, scene works and productions as well as understanding of humanities and social sciences. It also offers opportunities of performances and internships to deserving students.

The part time programme has one module of three months and three modules of two months each. These are standalone modules. One may decide to pick one or multiple modules as per the convenience.

We have a strong group of national and international visiting faculty to support this program. These include senior theatre practitioners from India like Prof. Ram Gopal Bajaj, Smt. Kirti Jain, Shri. Sanjay Upadhyay, Shri. Abhiram Bhadkamkar, Shri. Adil Hussain, Shri. Aniruddha Khutwad, Shri. Swanand Kirkire, Shri. Abhishek Thapa, Dr. Shirisha Sathe, Dr. Himanshu Vaze, Dr. Ajay Joshi, along with a team of international associates like Prof. Lucy Richardson (Theatre Practitioner and Senior Lecturer, UK), M. Safeer (Festival Director, Colombo International Theatre Festival, Sri Lanka), Jeffrey Sichel (USA) to name a few. There would be many more guest speakers from the field interacting with the students.

Last year MIDAS and IAPAR produced Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus as an outcome of a process of a four month workshop. We are ready with the production for touring around. Our second production, ‘The Balancing Act’, a play in gibberish, dealing with the violence as experienced by the young children, was invited to 3rd Colombo International Theatre Festival 2014, in March this year and we are continuing with the performances in India.

I request you to pass on this information to young aspiring artists who wish to pursue formal training in theatre. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries. Do visit our website http://midasindia.net/art.html for any further information.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

With warm regards,

Yours Sincerely
