Could you send me a copy of the recent Aux. Police bill.  Is there any way this could have a mass emailing so everyone gets on board!!!!

I have mailed it to everyone I know.
Maybe you can send it to everyone you know.

The Volunteer Peace Officer's Benefit bill (VPOB) will provide cash benefits and medical care for volunteer peace officers (VPO) who are injured or become ill in the line of duty. This bill recognizes the unselfish service of volunteer peace officers by providing protection if they become ill or injured in the line of duty.

Since the VPO bill is copied from the Volunteer FF benefit law, the following link should be helpful http://www.wcb.state.ny.us/content/main/firefighters/VFAWLawIntro.jsp

In addition this bill states "Upon successful completion of all required classes and tests, the applicant will be registered with the division as a volunteer peace officer and will have the legal status of a peace officer while performing authorized activities within the duties assigned by the local municipality."

As we all know the two Auxiliary Police Officers would not have received the FEDERAL PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER BENEFIT if it were not for public outcry and support of  Senator Charles E. Schumer. Auxiliary Police need to be recognized as Peace Officers while on duty ... even if their orders are only to observe & report.

Please call, write, send e-mail, what ever you need to do to contact your elected officials, and ask them to support the bill.

I have attached a list  of all the Senators and Assembly Members.
You will see that most of them have at least 1 volunteer program in their district.
Since the benefits are what the firefighters & ambulance workers are already getting, the cost should not be an issue.
There is already money for the training in the form of grants.

Please contact them and ask them to support the bill.
They should call the bill's Sponsor and let them know that they support it.
Also ask them to call their leader (Joe Bruno or Malcolm Smith in the Senate or Sheldon Silver or Jim Tedisco in the Assembly) and ask for the bill to go to the floor so it can be voted on this year before the session ends.

The session ends in June.

The attached list gives all the info you will need.
If you did not get the list, contact me and I will send it to you.

The Bill numbers are A08779 & S05624A
