We are working on new legislation that will get benefits for Volunteer Peace Officers in New York State.
I need some information about your department.

What is the name of your department?

What are the requirements to join?
Age
Residency
Citizenship
Other

Does your department train it's members as  peace officers?
Are you a peace officer?
How many hours of  training did you receive?
Any additional training?
Does your department authorize any weapons?

What are you regular duties?
What  emergency duties have you been trained for?

This legislation would
1) Consolidate uniformed volunteer members of law enforcement agencies within the State of New York, including but not limited to Auxiliary Police, Special Deputy Sheriffs, Reserve Sheriffs/Police, Special Police, Reserve Police, SPCA, SPCC, Search and Rescue Squads, and Public Safety Emergency Officers;
2) Establish legal authority for law-enforcement agencies to conduct volunteer law enforcement operations;
3) Establish legal authority for volunteer officers to perform their duties;
4) Establish recruiting standards;
5) Increase minimal training standards;
6) Provide deserved benefits;  and
7) Protect uniformed volunteers in law enforcement agencies.
Passage of this legislation will legalize existing volunteer officers and operations as well as help recruit and retain current members.
This legislation should also include financial assistance in the aid and training of the various volunteer forces so that the local police departments can best utilize them.
Would your department be interested in this legislation if it meant they would have to meet State Standards?

Would you come to a NYSAAP meeting if we held it in the NYC area on April 29th, the day before the NYC Memorial Service?

Thank You,
Fraternally,
