Nassau County Auxiliary Police

Oceanside Auxiliary Unit 119

            Nassau County Police Department

            Fourth Precinct

            1699 Broadway

                                                Hewlett, New York 11557

On June 8th, 2005 at approximately 2000 hours, a call went out over the air with the description of a 14 year old male that went missing from Oceanside Park by his mother. After receiving this notification, APO’s Babich and Winters responded to the park and met up with RMP 441, 417 and 421. After obtaining a name and a picture of the missing child which was presented to us by his mother, Auxiliary RMP 1191 resumed patrol, heading towards a known location called the Creek where teenagers are known to frequent. As RMP 1191 made a left turn onto Perry Avenue, APO Winters and I spotted a child fitting the description of the lost child. At this time after confirming that this was the missing child by asking him his name, we notified NCPD Communications to advice Supervisory Sergeant Timothy P Mc Caffrey of the 4th Precinct that APO’s Winters and Babich had found the missing child. Sergeant Mc Caffrey asked us for our location, which was 439 Perry Avenue and Lake Street, and proceeded with the missing child’s mother. When RMP 441 arrived, the mother of the missing child starting crying and began thanking all the officers involved in the search. Sergeant Mc Caffrey told

APO Winters and Babich that this was a happy ending compared to what could have been a different out come. Sergeant Mc Caffrey praised our good team work. It felt so rewarding in assisting the Police Officer’s of the 4th. Precinct in locating the missing child. I want to thank Sergeant Timothy P. Mc Caffrey for noticing our dedication and for praising us in a job well done. This is what it’s all about. Putting on a Nassau County Auxiliary Police uniform is only a small part of how you get to help and assist the citizens of your community, and the Nassau County Police Department. We are both proud to be a part of the finest Police force in the country.

Sincerely,

APO Brian Babich
