Requirements for DataSource used by autopatcher

We're upgrading from an old version of autopatcher (1.2.7) to 1.4.2. In the past, we used a custom DataSource which explicitly turned off auto-commit on any connections returned to autopatcher. We've lost track of why that was put in place and are trying to track down if there was some explicit reason this may have been required in the past, or even if it is still required in some cases. Using a more generic DataSource (with AutoCommit enabled) appears to work fine, but we're curious if there are any explicit requirements around AutoCommit or other features the DataSource needs to support.
