Tomorrow morning I found two e-mails in my inbox. One showing me a
video of Jennifer Lopez naked (posted in autop...@googlegroups.com)
and another one telling me that I've been invited to join the jQuery
forum.
There also has been a link in the latter mail, have a look:

I don't know what to say.
Yeah, I've also been annoyed with ggroups lately. I manage 2 (very
small) groups myself and I've seen spam hit the groups daily.
This is weird, since gmail's anti-spam system is so fantastic (I can't
remember when it let spam through to my inbox, and I've never seen
false positives). One would think the same system could be used in
ggroups too.
My only conclusion was that spammers have recently got smarter, with
all the tinyurl things and much shorter mail content to fool automated
tests. But maybe ggroups anti-spam/moderation system is fundamentally
broken?

Very interesting post. I can only imagine how much pain it must be for
such a large community as jQuery. I'm frustrated and the amount of
spam I see in my groups are negligible compared to that..

Me neither. But it's not like phpBB hosted by ourselves is much
better. We've tried that before and it was a mess.. talk about poor
moderation system!! There's not even mass-deletion in the UI - you'd
have to open each thread and click delete.
Are spammers winning the internet?

You'll notice if you look at the jQuery group that there isn't any
spam on it at the moment. That article was written a week or so before
we significantly upgraded the spam filtering on groups. We put jQuery
to the front of the queue to get upgraded and shortly afterwards their
problem was solved.
