Dear people at Supermetrics,
From a month ago I've been having issues running GA queries, the following error appears:

Query failed: Daily Google Analytics quota exceeded for view XXXXX

The problem is with a specific view, but I've run more and bigger queries using Supermetrics before on the same view without problems. Also this is happening even without running any queries before on the same day.

I'm trying to debug this with our Google Analytics Premium team so can you help me with this?
  • What API and version are you using for GA?
  • Usually API limits are by projects and not for a view, how is relating the limit to a view?
Thanks!!

We are using GA API v4. There is a view-level limit of 10,000 queries per day in the GA API, across all API usage (so also different products used on the same view would count).

Which Google Drive login does this happen with? We have a new tool (still under development but can already be used) for analyzing usage: https://supermetrics.com/api/APItools. There you can check which Supermetrics queries from which files are causing most GA API requests.

Note that the daily numbers won't exactly match Google's numbers as GA API usage is tracked by US/Pacific time zone days, and currently our usage tracking tool displays all data on the Helsinki time zone (GMT+2).

Great, with that tool we could find out where our daily quota was being used, the only thing I would suggest is that the file ID doesn't work, neither the link or the ID replaced in another Google Drive file. I had to explore through our "suspicious" files to identify the query IDs.

Another suggestion to avoid this: refresh scheduling should have date frames in which they're active, optional of course but it could be really helpful. For example we use hourly refreshing during important campaigns but nobody noticed they had to delete the trigger, hence our query limit for GA was being hit every day.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! Apparently, we were storing just part of the file ID, that's why the links didn't work. We've fixed that now for data being store from now on.

When we have that tool completed, we will start doing email alerts if you're approaching quota limits.

Thanks! About date frames for refreshing triggers, do you think that’s going to be possible in the future?

We can take that into consideration. But I think there would not be that much need after we set up the automated usage alerts.
