"Play" command for Spotify

I've been trying to set up a few flows for my music usage and I like to use Spotify as my player.  Is there a way to use Automate to send a Play command to Spotify?  I've tried the Audio Player control with the "Play" command, but that starts up Google Play Music.  I've also tried messing with selecting the Spotify "receivers" and haven't had much luck.

Has anybody else been able to get this to work?

Try Media Utilities from play store. It worked for me with Tasker, should with Automate too

What do I do in Automate to get this Media Utilities program to launch and play music in Spotify?

After installing MU it works as plugin, just link whatever action from Automate to it (media play pause in plugin configuration) and it should work. Just make sure that in MU app Spotify is recognized as possible signal receiver.

Have you selected Spotify as the receiver for the command?
Set method to "Fake media button", then tap the "Pick receiver..." button and select the Spotify / ...internal.receiver.MediaButtonReceiver.

I'm glad you replied because I took a second look at how I was trying it.  I noticed this only worked if Spotify was already running in the background.  However, adding in a 3 second delay between the Start App - Spotify command and the Audio Player Control - Play command got it to work reliably.  I guess it was sending the play command before Spotify fully opened.
