Hi,
I installed Automate today and created a flow to switch on 5G if the display is on and set the network to 4G if the display is off. 5G consumes much battery and I want to limit this somehow.

How can I make sure, that the flows runs automatically in the background when ever the display on/off is triggered?

I read the points in the linked article and tried them already. However my flow only works if I start it manually and I do not have another idea, why this is the case.

Maybe I do not understand Automate, yet. Is there a trigger function that starts the flow once the display status has changed for example?

I experimented a bit more with my flow. One thing I needd to learn, is that the flow needs some loop in order to do what I expected. I guessed that Automate would actually run a loop to run the flows itself.
Also I debugged the flow and found one mistake in my side, leaving to a unconditioned exit, whithout me noticing in the first place.
For now it seems to work fine ;-)

You only need to start the flow once, it can then use the Display on block to await the display turn on or off, e.g.

1. Flow beginning
2. Display on

N. Mobile network preferred set: G4
