Hello everyone

I am new at using Automate. I think over time I will be asking a lot of questions here in this forum to better understand how to use its complex abilities. A lot of it is over my head in understanding.

Today's question is about the Notification icon symbol. I finally was able to put together a flow that allows me to turn on and off the flashlight from the notification area part of my phone. When I swipe down, I see my custom notification icon. Tapping on it turns on the flashlight and tapping on it again turns it off. The notification is permanently there. I see it when using my phone. I want to change the icon symbol it is using which looks like a bubble chat box with an exclamation mark in the middle. I want to use my own icon symbol like a flashlight. My phone is running Android 4.3. Is there away and if so how? Where do I get, or if need be, make my own icon symbol to replace the default one I mentioned? I barely get the gist of the sheer power these blocks can do, so please baby steps in your explanation.

I appreciate any and all help coming my way. I feel so ignorant and it is a bit frustrating.

Currently users can't change the notification icon, but I could make it possible to select one of the 300+ Automate icons.
A custom picture isn't possible since Android requires the images to be packaged within the app.

Sounds good. I can think of a few ideas that require notifications and it would be practical to distinguish between them. Looking forward to it in your updates.

I'll investigate to what extent it's possible.

If it is the permanently showing bubble icon that bothers you, you can try setting the Priority argument to Minimum in the notification show block. On my device it hides the bubble icon at the top, but the notification still shows up when you pull down the notification area. I don't know if it works for every device though.

With latest beta release I can set custom icon but this icon only appear when I expend the notification bar... The small logo in the top is always a bubble with exclamation mark...

Does it will be possible to also been able to customize this logo?

It isn't possible to change the status bar icon prior to Android 6.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for pour reply. Before using Automate I was using Llama and it was possible to display a lama with different color and number of dots on the top depending the profile applied... Based on your feedback I guess it was the application logo itself? Right?

If so, can you consider a block that independently of displayed notification will allow the user to choose if Automate icon should be showed (today no logo) and which logo?

I understand that it will be one logo shared by many flow but for a specific flow that for example manage settings based on your location will give a visual clue to user about settings currently applied... I am not sure if it's clear and don't know how to post print screen on this forum...

Let me know if you need more details... I can share a flow with you to let you see the needs...

Do you mean the icon for the "Automate running" notification?

The reason custom "status bar" icons only work for Android 6+ is that on earlier Android version the icon had to be an actual PNG image, in 4 different resolutions, included in the APK.
Automate has 230+ icons, if i where to create and include that may PNG images, the app would probably be 20MB or larger. Neither Google nor users favor such large apps.

I am not sure... if you take a look at the print screen bellow (not from my phone), you can see a lama in the top bar corresponding to the profile activated... I have no idea how the developer did... the logo change color and dots on the top without notification... (it was working on my phone with 4.4.2 and no root)

I understand your concerns about application size... was just a wishes to be able to do it... if not I can survive and will surely not complain... I realize the amazing works you do on this great app.

I have no idea if the 4 PNG are used... may be you can put 3 blank (very small) and only one who is useful... Don't know if it will do the trick or if different devices will use different size...

Sorry for all my questions. Wish you great day!

It can be done, that's not the issue. It's just that Automate has a lot more icons, too many to include as PNG images.
On Android 6+ the icon can be a bitmap, which Automate generates at run-time from its icon font.

as many of us would like to use custom notification icons would be good alternative make a "custom notification icons plugin" even if larger then 20Mb+! so who needs custom icons they could download it from google play! your custom icons already more then enough no need create more!  as extra plugin would be nice to use them under android 6!
