Hello everyone,

thanks for that huge ressource of help here!

Autokey V 0.95.10 (fresh install)
Debian 24.04.1 LTS
Seems as if thunderbird is causing some trouble here, since a lot of typos are introduced in phrases autokeyed to the email editor. On my Debian this is unique to thunderbird and LibreOffice so far, priority here is on thunderbird. All other 'simple' editors work like a charm.

Any suggestions where to look at?

Thanks,
Thomas

Welcome to the AutoKey community, Thomas Gänsewig!

First, overhead.

The first thing to do is upgrade to the current version of AutoKey, 0.96.0. It's a few years old by now and has lots of bug fixes and a few new features.
(We broke something in the infrastructure used to build the release package - long since fixed - that caused Debian not to include the newer version.)

The new version can be found at github.com/autokey/autokey/releases/tag/v0.96.0

with installation instructions at https://github.com/autokey/autokey/wiki/Installing

We provide debs there which make Debian installs very easy.

The instructions cover this, but, just to be sure:

Backup any actions (phrases and scripts) you have defined BEFORE upgrading!
If you do have any actions to backup, be sure to include the associated hidden metadata files (same names as the actions, but start with a period to hide them and end in .json).
(We got rid of hidden files in 0.96.0 and, if you have any, they will automatically be converted to the new naming convention as part of the 0.96.0 install.)

Uninstall 0.95.10 before installing 0.96.0. You don't need to purge the config files, etc.

When you use dpkg to install the common code and one or both of the front ends, do them all in one dpkg command or their codependencies may make installation a bit harder.

Now, your actual problem.

Always use Paste using clipboard (Ctrl+V) for all phrases (and the equivalent code in all scripts) (It's the default setting in 0.96.0) unless your text contains active keys represented by AutoKey macros like  "<enter>, <left>,...). This fixes tons of problems. There are several articles in our wiki covering this in full detail. Start with

https://github.com/autokey/autokey/wiki/Emitting-Keyboard-Events .

AutoKey emits characters at machine speed and some applications can't keep up dropping characters. LibreOffice and the Firefox address bar are the prime offenders.

I live and breathe Thunderbird and have not seen any errors there, but I don't use AutoKey with it much. If the above steps don't fix your issue, I will try to recreate it here. I currently have a flea watt notebook, so if anything is going to break, it will happen to me. I am still on Kubuntu 22.04. Hopefully, that's not a factor.

Welcome to the AutoKey community, RaanPahMuang!

Try it with AutoKey 0.96.0 (see other recent post or ask again) and use Paste using clipboard (Ctrl+V) for phrases. If that doesn't fix it, then post back here. I have used Thunderbird forever and will try to recreate and fix any problem that I know enough to address.
