Hi,

Is there a way to add font types to AutoDesk View? I asked this question
the last time around but it doesn't appear to have been answered.

Greg,

If it is view 2 that you are talking about then you can change or add font
types via the tools options dialog box:

For TTF\PFB Fonts - You will need to make a substitution for an SHX

Go to Tool>options>DWG/DXF. In the dialog box press the Font Map button to
get the DWG Font Map dialog Box. Click 'add' to get the Edit DWG Font Map
dialog box. Type in the name of the TTF or PFB you wish to make a
substitution for in the Reference Font: field. Then type in or browse for
the SHX font you wish to replace it with.Click 'OK', 'OK' to accept the
changes.

For adding new SHX Fonts you need to know where the Autodesk View, Fonts
directory is located.

By default this is normally located in the Autodesk View\Fonts directory
under Programs Files. If you have not the changed location of this
directory then simply add your new SHX font file to this directory. If you
have then find out the path to your local fonts directory: Go to Options\
Tools\ load. In the 'Fonts\shape search path' field the path to your fonts
directory will be displayed. It is here were you should add your SHX Font
File, using Windows Explorer.

Please see your the online help for any further information.

I need to buy View for viewing and red lining Autocad drawings in the field. I intend to use the .DWF format because the file sizes are so compact. I've tested the downloaded View program and found that I can't get True Type fonts to show. I tried what you mentioned but no substitution takes place. I'm interested that you said "If it is View 2" in your note. Is there a problem with View 2.01 I should know about before I buy? Also, why can't View see True Type fonts to start with when Autodesk's free Whip and Volo View Express can ? ? One more thing, when I try to open a DWG file in View it gives me an extremely low resolution picture that's useless. Does this have anything to do with using the downloaded demo copy?

Autodesk View is older than Volo View Express. That is why Volo View Express
reads True Type Fonts but Autodesk View does not. View 2.01 has a problem
plotting drawings to scale that View 2.0 does not. Version 2000-129 of the
free Volo View Express now has redlining. Have you tried that?
