General DBI Error

Does anybody have any idea what will cause the following error message
to occur when attempting either a full or incremental backup?

"A general DBI error has occurred."

The backup fails at that point. Other than that, the system SEEMS to
be working fine. CAT_FIX and CAT_INDEX have both been run with no
database corruption or any other kind of error reported.

Probably log file corruption. Dump the log.

(Not fair since Matt figured this out all by himself today after posting
