Converting Mtext to an Attribute

Lets say I received a Title block that a customer want's me to use in
the drawings that I will be producing, but it is just lines and Text.

Now I prefer to keep my title blocks as blocks in the drawing, and use
attributes to control what the text says within that block.

My question is: is there a way to easily convert Mtext to an attribute?
This would save me from creating them from scratch to replace the Mtext
that is currently being used in that Titleblock.

Thanks in Advance,
Clark.

What do you want the Mtext to be? the prompt or value? Anyhow the only thing
I can think of is to edit the mtext, highlight it and do a control C then exit,
and run attdef and paste it where you want it.

Clark,

The faster way would be to create a file with just the title block and then
insert into the part/assy file you are working on. Hope it works.

Lets try that one again...

Jas,

Thanks for the info, however that is what I commonly do.

Kent,

I will try your method. I like to define things like Date, Drawn by, Drawing number, part description etc.
as attributes in my own title blocks (My company).

Since I have been doing work for someone who prefers to have his own title block, he has supplied me with a

drawing file containing that title block.

When I insert that file there is no prompt for the attribute values (obviously) since all of the above
mentioned values, such as my name (as the drawn by:) were
originally created as Mtext by this other person.

My current method of bringing drawing files such as those up to my preferred method has been to simply

delete the Mtext and run Attdef to replace the deleted
Mtext. This can be quite time consuming, so I was looking for an easier way, by means of a transform type of
command. Mtext to an attribute text. (value) I am

aware that I would still have to enter in a tag & prompt.

Ideally this transform command would bring me straight to the Attdef dialog box where the Mtext would

automatically be placed in the Value box & I would quickly
type in a name for the prompt & Tag, hit Enter & I am done.

It is my suspicion that no such command exists, but there is no harm in asking?

Perhaps this is something for the Bonus tool guys to look at...

Thanks for your quick response Kent !

Actually once I found the Bonus tools Rtext I haven't looked back at attributes
for the title block.
