Hello all,
This is a long-shot but maybe I'll get lucky. Is it possible to
extract key images from the legend to be used outside of the
plug-in/control? In other words, when I am using the built-in legend I
have a display of what each legend item looks like so that the user can
easily identify what a layer looks like on the map. However, if I
design a custom legend used outside the control/plug-in it seems that I
can only extract the names of the legend items, and not the image or the
themes (using javascript). Am I missing something or have I maxed out
the capability of the API in regards to the legend?

Thanks!

Hi Rick,

Make a screenshot and cut and paste those small images of each layertype
into different GIF images. Use transparency in the GIFs.
Then you make a small database that translates that contains the
layer names and the image names and paths.
After that you use ColdFusion or ASP to dynamically generate your menu
with right symbol images for each layer you read out of the map.

Its a bit of work, but you get a nice result!

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, but we were hoping to make this portion truely
dynamic with little need for maintenance beyond the map file.

But we may end up having to make the gif "library".

Thanks again!
