I use parameterization in Inventor and have the part linked with Excel. The
problem is that I would like to create individual, non-linked parts from the
original parameterized part. Is it possible to do this without manually
changing all the dimensions/constraints from variables to values?

Open the "3rd Party" section in the Browser Bar and RMB on the table and hit
DELETE. This will break the link.

Keep a master set of IPT and IDW linked. Close those files and open the IDW
in Design Assistant. Don't worry if you get an OLE error, you will be
breaking the link later. Click on "manage" then LMB on the "none" under
action for each file and select COPY. Then RMB on the file name under NAME
and select "change name". If you do both files in the same session of DA,
then the new IDW will link to the new IPT. After both are renamed, hit the
SAVE button near the top of the window. Do this for each variation of part
you want. Then go into each IPT, RMB on the excel link, change the
variables, close the excel sheet (saving of course), hit UPDATE, then break
the link top the excel sheet. The IDW should show the correct changes for
that variation.

Of course, you might have saved a few steps if you didn't use a spreadsheet
but rather, just changed the values in the Parameters Table.

There was another way instead of DA, but I had unpredictable results once.
That involved making as many copies of the IDW and IPT as you needed each
with its own file name. Then rename the original IPT to any other name so
that IV can't find it and invokes the "resolve link" dialogue box when you
open the IDW. Do that for each IDW, and you will redefine the link to a
different IPT.

Karl,
Thanks for your help on my first question.

I want to change parameters, unlink the .ipt file and unlink the .idw file,
so I can have individual, unchanging drawing files.

Thanks,
Erik
