Hi all,

If you're looking for a comprehensive web location for parts, support and
training for Autodesk Inventor, you'll find some useful material on:

http://inventoruser.autodesk.com

If you want to get the parts and skip the rest, go to:

http://inventoruser.autodesk.com/parts

This library was enabled in partnership with Cadalog and consists of both
standard and manufacturer specific parts. There are over 8 million parts in
the library.

Would love to get some feedback on the part library and anything else on the
site. We will be updating it regularly.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Abhi Singh

Cool. May I suggest you put links to the various free tutorials on your
training page? If you can't include the ones by various users, at least
the ones that are on Adesk's server.

Just click Articles in the menu on the left side of the page. I think links
to the other sites would be a great idea as well.

When I copy the properties of the photos (BTW I see red x's as well) into
the address bar of the browser I get a 404 error, so they are not there.
Kent, I think maybe you have the photos cached in your browser.

I have no problems seeing the images here at work or at home. I clean out my
Temporary Internet Files frequently. Is there somewhere else, that those
images can get cached. I even tried Sean's method of pasting the URL to the
image, and that worked fine too!

Try cleaning out your cache and then hit the reload button while holding
down the SHIFT key. That forces IE to reload the page without using cached
information. Still seem them?

IV5.0sp2 here. i can't get any of the parts to open, whether
downloading/unzipping or trying the idrop method. can i assume that the
files are IV5.3 or should they work and i'm doing something wrong?

Don't know if this is the issue but you have to have a library path in your
project file to use idrop parts named StandardParts=some path

Cool,
For fun, I did the iDrop of the bearing in the opening parts page:
http://pointa.autodesk.com/local/enu/portal/inventor/partLibrary.jsp?po=enu

It's a bearing with an id: .025" x .100" od x .031 wide. Can anybody tell
me were I can find a bearing of this size? As far as I know, it's not a
valid size. Really, I DO have a use for such small bearings!

Oops I was thinking of something else <g>. The Path name should indeed be
Point A Parts. It works for me but it's a bit quirky. Hold the button over
the part (it turns to a "no" symbol) Drag into a saved assy and release (it
will turn into a full dropper then place the part). The icons are just a
bit broken...

I don't think those are in production - that's why I asked.
I actually met with a GM of Minebea (NMB) last week about this so I'm
covered from that manufacturer.

Sean,

Here's what the "Inventor 5.3 special i-drop instructions" state on the
parts site:

Using i-drop for Autodesk Inventor 5.3

Before using i-drop for Autodesk Inventor 5.3, do the following:
a.. Start Inventor and ensure that no design files are open
b.. Select Projects from the File Menu
c.. Select Library Search Paths from the Project Editor (the lower pane)
d.. Click on the Plus Icon or Select Add Path from the context menu
e.. Specify the Library Name as Point A Parts (note: case sensitive and
two spaces) and a location where the downloaded files should be stored.
f.. Select Save
I followed these instructions and could not get the i-drop parts to work.
Are they working for you in 5.3? I also tried your suggestion for a
"StandardParts" library path and got the same results.

LOL, reminds me of when I transitioned from Roller Coasters and Peterbuilt
trucks to disk drives back in '78. I had no idea what #sized screws were,
first project I called out a #5 tapped hole. Why? Because it was .125
diam. of course! 1/8" "had" to be a standard size - right?
