Dana,

Just an Idea.... as the profile moves down the path, are there any
corners that may be too tight and cause the profile to intersect itself
while turning the corner... kinda like bending an extension cord to
tight-the inside of the bend piles up.

IV does not like extension cords that are bent out of shape... causes
shorts.

I just had a sweep that got confused. The profile was .100" wide, but
due to some intersecting paths (imagine a belt loop) the profile
skinny'd down to .050" and tripled in thickness where they were touching
as the path weaved in and out of the belt loop.

Dana,

What if you delelect the profile, then select the path, then re-select
the profile. Any diff? Post it please.

I guess its having a problem showing the preview.

Dana,

There is a defect in the Sweep command in IV4: IV locks up when you move
the cursor over a path in a certain case. We fixed the defect in IV5.
Please post your model to autodesk.autocad.customer-files, and I'll check it
out in IV5.

Dana,

I opened it in IV4 and it swept without crashing.

However; There are no rads between the 3Dline segments, and the line you
sketched in the center of the sweep profile complained about causing an
"open loop" for the sweep... I changed it to const. geometry and
everything seems good.

Dana,

I just opened the part in IV4, invoked the Sweep command, and selected the
circular profile. As soon as I moved the cursor over the 3D path, IV4
crashed. We fixed this defect in IV5. There's nothing wrong with the part
itself.

A workaround to avoid this defect in IV4 is the following:

1. Edit the Sketch1, which is used as the sweep profile.
2. Select the line (Note that this line is connected to the 3D path).
3. Change the style of the line from Normal to Construction.
4. Finish Sketch.
5. Invoke the Sweep command.
6. Select the circular profile.
7. Move the cursor over the 3D path until the whole path is highlighted.
(Note that only some line segments of the 3D path could be highlighted,
depending on the cursor position. This is another defect that we fixed in
IV5.)
8. Select the 3D path.
9. Hit OK. Sweep feature should work fine.
