Inside AutoCAD use the compile command to convert .shp files into .shx
files.

Linetypes are not shape files. There is no SHP2SHX converter as far as
I know. Do you mean SHX2SHP? SHP2SHX is done with the COMPILE command
for fonts.

Linetypes aren't shapes. Their definitions are simply contained in the
ACLT.LIN file. If you're attempting to create *complex* linetypes, then
that's a different matter; you need both a .LIN file and a .SHX file for
any shapes called by the definitions in the .LIN file -- is this what
you're trying to get across?

I have created .LIN file and .SHP file . Now i need to compile to .SHX .
How do i do in LT version . It does not have a compile command . All my work
would be wasted .

Do you know the format of SHX file for linetype . I am ready to write a
compiler myself .I know VC++ and pascal .

Hope any one can help

You are talking apples and oranges. . .

LIN files are an ASCII text file to define linetypes and it does not require
compiling.

SHP files are the ASCII text file to define text characters and the SHX files
are the compiled version of the SHP file. If AcadLT does not have a way to
compile the SHP file then maybe you can send your SHP file to someone with
Autocad, they can compile it for you and then they'll send the SHX file back to
you. BTW - Did you try typing COMPILE into AcadLT (I don't have LT so I don't
know if this works in LT or not) but it works in R14.

In a linetype file you can create a linetype that inserts a text character into
the line but there is no need nor a way to compile the LIN file.

I know one need not compile LIN file but from SHP file I want to create SHX
file .which I am not able to do thru LT . I know AutoCAD R14 can do . I do
not want to distibute or be a paiin in the neck for others to keep on
compiling files for me . I have to be sure before I can use my line hence I
cannot send my same SHP file for 20 times after every time i change
something .

Why worry about sending Linetype files. If the definition is used in a
drawing, the linetype definition is stored in the drawing. Am I missing
something here?
