Hello all,
I'm having a difficult time determining what is slowing our PaperSpace
drawings to a crawl. We are assembling multiple viewport windows around
several Xref drawing files placed in Model Tile. We are adding notes and
dimensions within Model Space and the problem occurs when trying to select
objects for editing. It is taking about 15-20 seconds to select an object.
Is there any variable settings effecting this? Ive tried RegenMode and
Spatial Indexing to no avail.
I'm hoping for any hints or clues to better performance using Paper Space.
I'm using a PII 266 with 64 mb Ram.
Thanks,
Mark Johnson

Just a thought ... Are you using truetype fonts in PS?
That will do it.

Yes, we are aware of the problems with them. We freeze most of the
titleblock area that contains them. Do you think one or two lines of
truetype text thawed would matter? I'll try it out.

I seem to notice the same problem when my ltscale is set very low (.5). I
have seen some improvement when I change the ltscale to a very high number.
Then I need to remember to set it back before plotting however. Has anyone
else noticed this to be true?

i snipped this from somewhere. i apologize in advance if i'm plagiarizing anyone:

Users with HUGE drawings may want to consider changing the value of the TREEDEPTH variable. It controls the AutoCAD Oct-Tree Spatial
Index, which specifies the number of times the tree-structured spatial index may divide into branches. Setting the value to -3020
flattens the Z index giving you more granular nodes in the XY which yields faster object selection. It has no effect on the
elevations of your objects.

Mark,

Don't ask me why, but we have best results when freezing the layer that
the block with TT text is *inserted* on, as well as the layer the text
itself is on... One or two lines certainly makes a difference for us.

I'm not sure if it is still the case, but in earlier versions,,, that is
MUCH earlier versions,, if the limits of the drawing were not set to where
you are actually working at, it would cause a slow down in pick time,
especially on large drawings. Whether this is the case now or not, I don't
know. But, it is simple enough to set your limits in paper space to make
sure they are correct.
