Try restoring the backup drawing and rename the errored dwg to dwg.err or
something. I have that happen before, but I'll always go to the backup
after a failure followed by a failure.

I have seen several postings saying to disable virus scan programs while
running Autocad. Hope this helps.

Ed,

This problem is caused by using the Lengthen, Total command. We have only
seen it occur when the Lengthen, Total command reduces the size of the
entity on both sides of the entity. If the size of the entity is increased,
rather than decreased, the error does not occur. This error can occur with
broken ellipses, elliptical arcs, splines, and lightweight polylines.

Best of luck!

Thats interesting, because Chuong Vando at Autodesk sueested to me that the
problem is caused by circular nested xrefs. I have also been told that it
can occur because you have R13 leaders in the file which will need to be
converted by an patch at the R14 web page. Whatever it is, it is causing us
major problems.

If anyone has any REAL idea what is causing this, please share it.

Thanks

A tip I received yesterday was this:

When you receive this error and it contains 6 digits followed by an h,
it is a software issue. If you receive this error and it contains 8
digits followed by an h, it is a hardware issue.

In this case, it would be software related. What I would need to know
to help assess the situation is the exact version of R14 being used.
Is it R14, R14.01 or R14.01 post-copyright issue?

In the 8 digit situation, reseating RAM would be a first
recommendation.

Hope this is useful.

Interesting. Who did you get this info from, Jeff?

I got it from my CAD dealer yesterday ( Paul Benbow, CADre, Cary, NC )
while I was enjoying the lunch he bought for me.<G> We often trade
tips with each other.

Reseating the RAM? I think it's either in or not, so if
you have 96 Megabytes and the computer says it has that
then you're ok.

I remember (vaguely) that 418520h is a specific software
problem with lengthen LWpolyline and may even be identified
on the Autodesk site somewhere.

Of course my experience is with the 8 digit (I was told
9, but I know the 'h' means hexadecimal). Exactly duplicatable
on several machines with a specific drawing file, following
the same steps everytime.

I even disabled my cache and booted in SAFE mode (never
again). Still same error at same location (8 digit). I
still have the drawing, and I identified it as a block
across three layers (dam arkytecs :). Freeze two layers
and select what's left. Blammo.

If you can duplicate the error on another machine with
different hardware then it's probably not hardware. Make
sure the Autocad settings are identical. (setvar;?;* - copy
history).

The machines we've added all the patches to Win95 to never
lock anymore. Occasionally a program will have to be killed.

Perhaps a different memory address suggests a problem with circular nested
xrefs, but a Unhanded Access Violation Exception specifically at a memory
address of 418520h suggests only one thing- that someone has run across the
known issue using the Lengthen, Total command.

Regards,
