Laptop select / pick issues with touchpad

I have a Dell Inspiron 3800. I often do CAD work using the Touchpad.
I always have to tap the touchpad more than once to "select" or "pick" an entity. I believe it's not the touchpad because it works fine with other software.
It's not only annoying it's counter-productive. Any ideas?

There is no 'setting' for pick in AutoCAD: most likely, you don't 'pick' as
much in other programs and you only notice your ability/pad performance with
the pad in the 'pick' heavy AutoCAD program.

I've used touchpads on laptops for years (never a Dell though), never had or
seen an issue like that.
