I am looking for a new tablet to run under Win95 and R14 and I am wondering
if anyone has any experience with any of these small tablets with the
cordless pens. I see them advertised all over for use in Photoshop and
various other art programs and wonder if they work in autocad. I dont want
to digitize with it but use it in place of the mouse. It seems that Calcomp
is falling on hard times or has closed because their website is way
different now than a few months ago.
Anyone using any of these small tablets in Autocad.?

Thanks.
Walter

I'm using several [one at home and two at work] of the CalComp Design
Stations. They have helped me by reducing the amount of pain I experience in
my hand. I'm not sure about CalComp's financial situation but I do believe
that the digitizer portion of the business was sold to GTCO. We'll have to
see what they do with it. I do like the tablet controls. Works fine with
A2K, R14 and MDT 3. I have the buttons on the pen set up for left double
click and right click. The pen tip is for left single click. You can
customize the size of the active area and all kinds of other stuff that I
haven't even played with yet. I comes with a 16 button puck that I can't use
for the same reason I stopped using a mouse. PAIN!

Occasionally I have to get the pen away from the board to get the buttons to
work. I'm not sure what that's all about. Really it's my only complaint.

I've got the Wacom 8 x 5, with the 3 button stylus and I also bought the
extra 4 button puck.

I was having a sore hand from using the mouse which is why I bought the
stylus, but using the stylus all the time will still give you a sore hand,
just a different position.

Get the optional puck as well and you can change back and forth at will.
I rotate them several times a day.
Some actions are easier on a mouse/puck some easier with the stylus, use the
one that suits the task at hand.

I often read about those who buy the tablet with just the stylus then try
and use the current mouse only to have problems running both off the serial
ports. Go the easy way, ditch the mouse and get the stylus & puck.

Under NT the Wacom works faultlessly.
Highly recommended.
Did I mention that you should get the stylus & the puck?

Do it!

Regards,
Kim
