Im looking for any advice on how or what programs to use for rendering
complicated cad drawings. I want something to make my drawings look
super nice. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

3D Studio VIZ 3.0 is a very good program.
And offcourse when you use a SGI high-end workstation i recommend Maya from
SGI.

I have found Robert-McNeel & Associates "ACCURENDER" to be the best for the money. It works seamlessly inside of AutoCAD since version 12. I have produced some
real high quality photographic renderings using it. You can download a free working demo
copy from their web site. Another program is "LIGHTSCAPE" (sold thru Autodesk dealers). I have seen some good stuff produced with it but don't know about ease of use.

Hope this helps!

3D Studio Viz is a great program for rendering. Allows you to use any
image and make it a background or surface on your objects.. Take a
picture of something and put it right on your walls etc.. It's got a
very steep learning curve to it and demands the best in machines to
run.. I have a 450mhz, 128mb ram, 96mb video accelerator (Oxygen 2) and
I can use a lot more.. One really nice thing is that you can install it
on several computers on a network and assign each computer different
sections of a walkthru to render and then put them all together for a
finished prodsuct.. Anything you can do to make your computer faster is
a plus because this program is a cpu/ram HOG!!

Some of the experts actually do all thier work in the 3D Studio Viz
program but I prefer to do most of my work in AutoCad and then import
it into Viz and make it pretty there..

In short, it's a great program, you need a super bad computer, and
expect to spend a good bit of time learning to use it to it's
potential.. Training classes are very highly recommended.. Cost by the
way is in the $1800 range.. Very reasonable for the abilities of this
program.
