There are so many to choose from ... godaddy,
dotser, directnic etc ...

Do you have good experiences to share?

o Good price.
o Good service.
o Useable and capable account control panel.
o Database support.
o Extension support, e.g. frontpage

Many thanks,

Michael.

Somebody here suggested http://www.netmart.com. I switched a while back and for
about $10/month they host my site and give me plenty of e-mail addresses which I
can control via web interface and access remotely. I don't have an ftp site,
but I can direct them to make folders read-only to all, e.g.. "Downloads" and
"Freebies." I gave my daughter the password to post her pictures there (guess
you're all welcomed to see them). Hafta say that their voice response time is
rather slow. Recently, I couldn't send e-mail. After 3 days of no voice
return, I managed to "chat" with someone who correctly advised me to change my
outgoing SMTP server to my ISP's address. No explanation as to why the sudden
rule change. As to spam and virus control, you're on your own. I guess that
means I'll be watching this thread for other suggestions.

I've been using http://arishost.com for a few years now & havn't ever had a
problem with them... & you can't beat the price for the basic service...
$30 for the domain name a year & free hosting (30MB, 500MB/Traffic) with
cheap add-ons.

It's been more than enough for me so far, but I might be adding on My-SQL &
some more storage space soon. (even that is just a couple bucks a month).

And last but not least....I use www.Hypermart.net , we generally pay $25.00
every 3 months, and to be honest I don't remember how many megs, emails,
etc., our webmaster takes care of all that.

I use:

www.ipowerweb.com

They are in Santa Monica, California, which may be a bit inconvenient
for you, but possibly of interest to others here, I dunno.

I've been using GoDaddy for 5 years.
I have 2 domain names - 1 personal (7.95/year) and 1 business (5.95/year).
Business name is cheaper since I use the .BIZ extension
I use the Deluxe Webhosting - personal (5.95/month) and business
(7.95/month)
Personal account is cheaper since I've had it for 5 years.
I use the 3 free email addresses for each hosted account (total of 6 email
address).
You can set any email account to accept any prefix, but I don't to try
to prevent spam.
I've changed the email addresses several times over the years without
problems to get rid of spam.
I've never had any problems with the hosting or email.
The only negative is the slightly longer than normal time it takes to get to
a support tech (10-20 minutes).

Thomas, Rudy, Herman, Alan, Jason, Bob, Rakesh and John:

Thank you for your suggestions. After looking at these sites,
sites suggested on another forum, and review of on-line
help, prices etc. I decide to give godaddy a shot for a short
term. That's not necessarily a statement that I think they're
the best; looking for a host could become a career, so I just
decided to try daddy. If I like them I'll stay; if not, well
I've plenty of choices due to your kind help :)

Thanks so much lads.

- Michael.

Ahhh yes, registrar is one thing, host is another :)

FWIW, I registered my domain name w/GoDaddy in like 7 minutes from start to
finish. I didn't even shop around :)

Life is too precious to spend it looking for a domain name registrar - it's like
shopping for pens and pencils anymore.
