Hi,

Anyone know if there's a way to convert a bitmap to dxf? Here's my
problem. I have a bitmap. I want to plot it to a fairly good size like

36x24. I have AutoCad R14 on windows NT. I have tried converting
it to an encapsulated postscript and loading it. It comes out with a
gray block around the drawing. I changed the color so it should come
out as a thin line but it comes out as a 36x24 black block. I also
tried to convert it to a .wmf but it didn't load up at all.

Got any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Hi,

Bitmaps and Encapsulated Postscript files are both what are called "Raster"
formats. Raster formats are pixel based and not calculated mathematically,
so you cannot directly convert a Raster file into AutoCAD. However, there
are several software programs created to convert Raster formats to Vector
formats. "Raster-to-Vector" software is usually very expensive - at least
for one that works well.

Encapsulated PostScript files may contain raster data, but they are intended
to contain vector data and usually do.

I stand corrected - the Vector data of Encapsulated Postscript files can be
inserted. However, a Raster-to-vector conversion is still needed. A simple
graphics converter will not convert the Raster data in a BMP file into
Vector format.
