Not sure if this the right NG to post this, but given the extensive
knowledge of the AutoCAD database presented here, I think it might be....If
not, please kick it to where it belongs :-)

In distributing our CAD files to consultants, we often bind xref's together
in one file. Sometimes this procedure is successful, sometimes not
(regardless of bind option selected)....I have searched for a reason, but
cannot find anything in particular. We run no major 3rd party arx
applications and no layer names, block names, dimstyles etc exceeds 31
characters...When unsuccessful, AutoCAD will sometimes (but not always)
report a missing block *E as a problem. Most of the time however, AutoCAD
will just abandon the bind after performing a regen without any type of
description of error encountered.

A couple of times I have been able to purge the referenced file and proceed
to successfully bind it in the file where it is xref'ed. Other times this
does not seem to work.

Given the *E error message, I suspect anonymous blocks might be to blame,
but I don't know for sure. So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced
similar problems, and if so, any idea as to what might cause this? Are we
talking BUG here?...ok, that was just to AUTODESK attention :-)

please....

I'm not sure what version you're using, but I assume it is 14.

There is a known issue with binding xrefs in R14 if one the xrefs was ever
saved with 2000 and then converted to R14.
A fix for this can be found here:

Jon;

Yes, I was using R14...

Thanks for the URL...Downloaded the arx, tried it and it appears to work
well. Strange thing is that nobody seems to recall opening these files in
A2K, not to say save them....Makes me wonder if this patch cures other
illnesses in the 14 file....but hey, as long as it works, I will be happy
:-)

Thanks again!
