We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of a minor release
of AUTO3DEM.
In addition to minor bug fixes, there are few changes that are noteworthy:
- the program to perform ctf estimation through autopp, ctffind3, has
been updated to version 3.5, which better handles astigmatism;
- the default metric for orientation refinement, used in po2r, has been
switched to a normalized cross-correlation type. This metric is more
robust to noise correlation than the previous distance-based one, under
a wider variety of conditions. It is defined as 'po2r funcmode 4' in the
auto3dem parameter files. An additional metric has been implemented
(po2r funcmode 5) that can potentially improve the accuracy of the
refinement, but it is more sensitive to the quality of the particles;
- in autopp there is a new option to join multiple parameter files into
a single one, and vice versa. Recommended to reduce the 'clutter' of
files in the working directory.
- in auto3dem, now parameter files with no particle selected are not
generated (it reduces the initial overhead of the reconstruction program).

You can look at the modification history (file MINOR_RELEASE_NOTES) for
additional information on all the changes.

Best,
Giovanni
