We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new release of AUTO3DEM, available at http://cryoem.ucsd.edu/programs.shtm.
This release contain minor changes, but some of them are noteworthy.
- the installation has been improved by unifying Linux and Mac procedures and making it easier to use different compilers. The new command is auto3dem_install
;
- masking of reference map for alignment purposes is now more robust to noise when using the gold standard procedure, and more in general the masking has been improved by automatically setting the soft edge width;
- improved chance of succes of the Random Model Computation by imposing a minimum number of micrographs to use;
- option in autopp to interpolate 2D images is now only for binning (option D), and added capability of binning in batch mode to Robem ;
- parameter (i.e. _continue) files generated at the end of each cycle of iterations have unique name, to track more easily the entire processing;
- added experimental option in autopp to estimate the defocus of micrographs using CTFFIND4 (option 3x, works only with Linux);
- optimized the refinement of defocus values in PCTFR in order to reduce computational cost.
A complete list can be found in the modification history file (MINOR_RELEASE_NOTES) provided with the software.
We hope that you will find these changes useful.

Sincerely,
Giovanni
