How to Calm Over Stimulation?

  • Deep Breathing: 4 seconds inhaling, 4 seconds of holding their breath, 6 seconds exhaling. Box Breathing. 
  • Isometric Exercise: Make a fist and squeeze, push against a wall, giving a stress ball or fidget toy that will help release the tension in their muscles. 
  • Deep Pressure: Weighted Blankets, Give your child a Bear Hug, Play with Play-doh
  • Creating a Calm Environment: Give a box of fidget toys, soft items, minimal sensory experiences, and lay down on pillows or a beanbag. 
All of these are strategies that I've used to help with Overstimulation!
