Siblings Group - Term 1

[Family Support Team]

Family Support Team is running a Siblings Group in Term 1 at Brighton
AQ. The group is open to children between the ages of 6 and 12 years
who have a brother or sister with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and whose
family is a current member of Autism Qld. The group will be each
Wednesday from 16th Feb until 13th April at 3.45pm - 5pm. The total
cost is $20.

The aims of the group will be to enable siblings to:

• Understand issues pertaining to their sibling’s disability
• Understand they are not alone with their concerns and feelings
• Receive positive support to express and deal with these feelings
• Make a positive adjustment to their family situation
• Increase their sense of self-esteem and coping skills
• Increase their support network and ability to use this network
• Strengthen their communication skills

This will be achieved through games, role plays, craft activities,
information giving and sharing, guided discussions, sharing afternoon
tea, and free playtime enabling siblings to socialize with each other.
