Dear PROMnet Members,

I wanted to pass along this great opportunity from CenterStat, a quantitative methods educational organization led by Dan Bauer and Pat Curran [of Quantitude Podcast Infamy] from UNC Chapel Hill (home of the fantastic free 3-day intro to SEM workshop, also advertised below).

CenterStat has a ton of really high-quality training resources (including several free things below and some paid seminars this spring) that can help researchers like the folks in this group improve their quantitative methods skills. Whether you're just starting to learn what a latent variable is or you teach similar courses at your own institution, I encourage everyone to take a look at the offerings. The free SEM workshop is a great intro that I’d highly recommend for anyone who is looking to learn more about that content area. Also, these workshops look really impressive on a K-award (or equivalent) training plan, so I encourage folks to budget some of the paid workshops into your grants if you want to get them paid for!

Best,
Zack

P.S. Autism PROMnet is in no way affiliated with CenterStat, and neither I nor the leadership team get any sort of compensation for advertising their courses (if only). I’m just a fan and satisfied customer. Other cool methods courses I’m aware of are also available through Pitt MethodsVanderbilt CQS, and Frank Harrell’s Regression Modeling Strategies Course (and I’m sure many more—feel free to add to the thread if you know of additional methods courses offered through your institution or somewhere else that could be relevant to group members!).

Free Quant Methods Resources

CenterStat has a lot of free resources available for those interested in learning more about quantitative methods. Check out all the great free stuff below. Of course, we also have a lot of not-so-free stuff that we hope may be of interest too. Hey, we have to keep the servers running somehow, right?

Introduction to Structural Equation Modeling

Join the fun as Patrick and Dan talk about path tracing rules, model-implied covariance matrices, goodness of fit indices, and their awkward childhoods (complete with photos). You get what you pay for and then some in this FREE webinar on May 10-12

CenterStat Unscripted

Dan and Patrick's latest boondoggle is a weekly YouTube Live broadcast where they explore the "what is" and "how do you" questions in statistics and data analysis (conversation topics that normally leave them isolated at social events but might find an appreciative, if small, online community).

Introduction to Intensive Longitudinal Data Analysis

Last fall, CenterStat instructors Jean-Philippe Laurenceau, Dan Bauer & Patrick Curran teamed up with APA Science to offer free seminars on Intensive Longitudinal Data. Catch the replays and download lecture materials for free!

Office Hours

In Office Hours, Dan and Patrick go low tech with whiteboard and markers to talk about quantitative methods in 15-30 minute video tutorials. Dedicated playlists for linear regression, growth modeling, and SEM and stand-alone videos on various other topics, such as Latent Class/Profile Analysis.

Help Desk Blog

Imagine receiving knowledgeable, succinct responses to your data analysis questions from experts in the field. Take that down a few notches and you've got CenterStat's Help Desk blog, where Patrick and Dan answer vexing questions such as, What's the best way to determine the number of latent classes in a mixture analysis? and What are modification indices and should I use them?
