Dear Colleagues,
I would like to share a new research study with the Autism PROMnet group gathering preferences in language used to describe autism. Our team of autistic and neurodivergent researchers is interested in how autistic people, their parents/caregivers, and professionals who work with individuals on the spectrum feel about a variety of terms common to autism research and practice (e.g., person-first vs. identity-first language; symptom/trait descriptors; intervention explanations).
We believe Autism PROMnet members would provide valuable insights based on your personal and professional experiences, and aligning with the aim of this group to ensure measures are culturally sensitive and able to capture the lived experience of autistic people. Determining the language preferences of community stakeholders is one important step in this process.
