New Releases

Hélène Boudreau: Real Mermaids Don’t Wear Toe Rings (paperback/audiobook) Jade feels like a freak-of-nature when she finally gets her first period at almost fourteen. But "freak-of-nature" takes on a whole new meaning when raging hormones bring on another metamorphosis--complete with scales and a tail.

Erin Bow: Plain Kate. Plain Kate lives in a world of swirling magic, where honest skill can be mistaken for witchcraft, and real witches slip away into the fog. When Kate sells her shadow to the mysterious Linay, she soon learns she cannot live shadowless forever, and Linay's designs are darker than she ever dreamed.

Personal Glimpses of Andrew Larsen, Susin Nielsen and Robin Muller

Andrew Larsen has had to learn to balance his dual roles as homemaker and author. His latest effort, a chapter book, was written in the early morning hours before anyone else in the house was awake. Later in the day, when he would reread his early morning work, Andrew would often ask himself the same question: Who wrote this?

When Susin Nielsen goes into a bookstore, she can’t help but check to see if they stock any of her titles. If they do, she will sometimes wait until no staff is looking, and turn her books to face outward. She suspects other authors might also engage in this slightly naughty behaviour.

First published twenty years ago, author/illustrator Robin Muller decided to try and have The Nightwood reissued when it was brought to his attention that an award winning designer in the fashion magazine Elle cited The Nightwood as a book she most loved as a child and that it was the inspiration for her award-winning line of clothes.  (Watch for an upcoming announcement of the reissue of this wonderful book!)
