On Friday, March 25th, Red Maple Nominee Marina Cohen launched her new novel, Mind Gap, (a story about a ghostly ride on a midnight subway train), in the TTC’s real life phantom station, Lower Bay. Joining her on the train were not only the grade 7 and 8 students of Jesse Ketchum P.S., but also some surprise passengers! Authors Helene Boudreau, Deborah Kerbel, James Bow and White Pine nominee, Natale Ghent, all donned zombie clothes and make-up to help give the students a ghoulishly great time!

NEW RELEASE:
Gail Sidonie Sobat's timely new novel, Chance to Dance for You, coming out in April, is an important look at intolerance and those who dare to dance on, in spite of it! Gail will be in the GTA and is available for school and library visits April 27 to 29.

YOUR TURN!
I wanted to write and sing the praises of Sigmund Brouwer and his Rock and Roll Literacy presentation. It is really challenging to find presenters who can engage the entire school from K-8, and Sigmund definitely did. He had great messages for the students e.g. always remembering writing for your audience and make your writing interesting, but he wrapped his messages up with cool short stories, engaging music, and active participation whether it was air-drumming to the beat of one of the songs he played or encouraging students and staff to sing and dance along. If you want a presentation that will appeal to your boys, and engage the entire school from K-8, teachers included then I highly recommend Sigmund Brouwer. One of our most reluctant readers, a grade 4 boy, who doesn't like reading anything has now read 2 of Sigmund's chapter books in a week and is working on a third from the Timberwolf Hockey Series! Thanks! - Kelly Healey
(We welcome feedback on any of our member’s visits! Thanks for writing, Kelly!)

A PERSONAL GLIMPSE OF PATRICIA STORMS
Patricia Storms is a freelance cartoonist, illustrator, and avid wish maker. She has always loved to draw, especially cartoons. Many of her early report cards praised her artistic talent, but encouraged her to move beyond cartoons into more respected forms of art. As soon as she finds a more respected form of art, she promises to drop the cartooning.
Patricia was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, lived far too briefly in Jamaica and grew up in Burlington, Ontario. At present, Patricia lives in Toronto, in a 92 year-old house with her bookish husband, two fat cats, and of course, lots and lots of books.
