Fellows are elected from among active and outstanding African scientists who have attained the highest international standards and/or have made significant contribution to the development and application of science, technology and innovation in Africa. Nominations are submitted by current AAS Fellows and Associate Fellows.

3rd intake of Science Advice Skills Development Program (SASDP)
INGSA-Africa, the Africa Regional Chapter of the International Network for Governmental Science Advice, is delighted to announce the launch of the third cohort of the Science Advice Skills Development Program (SASDP-3). They are inviting policy-active scientists/researchers/policy makers, preferably in a field connected to climate change (Health, Water, Energy, Food Security etc.), with the capacity to provide voluntarily one-to-one virtual mentorship over a period of 6 months, starting September 2024, to talented early and mid-career African scientists. Learn more.

CEPI seeks to fund new innovations for broad protection against Ebola and other deadly Filoviruses  
 CEPI is seeking researchers with fresh ideas for developing new vaccines that could protect against the deadly haemorrhagic fever viruses Ebola and Marburg as well as other pathogens in the Filovirus family.
In a joint call for proposals with the European Commission, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations aims to fund between three and five new Filovirus vaccine projects with a total of €50 million over five and a half years. Learn more.

Science & Society Conference
The Scientific Forum Entangling Geosciences and Chemistry (SciFo-EGC) is organizing the First International Edition of the EGC Conference on 24-26 October 2024. The conference theme is “Geosciences and Chemistry: A Multidisciplinary Approach for Sustainable Development”. This will be held in Yaounde Cameroon and will gather scientists from the geosciences, materials science, chemistry and Archaeometry fields. The Abel Prize
Named after Niels Henrik Abel, the Abel Prize is awarded every year to outstanding mathematicians by the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters. It aims to recognise pioneering scientific achievements in mathematics and help boost the status of the field of mathematics. Nominations for the prize are currently open. The nomination deadline is 1 September annually. All nominations received after the deadline will be considered in the nomination process for the subsequent year. Learn more.

AMI Program for Equipment Exchange and Reutilisation
The 1st Africa Microscopy Initiative (AMI) Program for Equipment Exchange and Reutilisation (PEER) aims to redistribute high-quality pre-owned light microscopes to institutions across Africa where microscopy will have the greatest impact. As part of this first call, free high-end microscopes will be generously made available by a commercial partner to successful applicant institutions. We therefore invite applications from research institutions and African scientists interested in applying for a donated light microscope for research and training purposes. Learn more.

MATRIX Graduate Student and Post-Doctoral Fellowships in HIV Prevention Research
Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows from Kenyan, South African, and Zimbabwean institutions are invited to apply to this request for applications (RFA) sponsored by MATRIX (Microbicide R&D to Advance HIV Prevention Technologies through Responsive Innovation and eXcellence): A USAID Project to Advance the Research and Development of Innovative HIV Prevention Products for Women. 
 
This RFA is designed to support research by a graduate student or post-doctoral fellow to address the critical need for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and/or multipurpose prevention technology development. Research should stimulate the development and implementation of effective HIV prevention strategies that meet the diverse HIV prevention needs of adolescent girls and young women, pregnant and breastfeeding people, and female sex workers. Successful applications will deliver innovative research while providing training and mentoring to the next generation of African scientists. Learn more.

The EurAfrican Forum is an action-oriented platform that seeks to strengthen collaboration between Europe and Africa, enhancing shared green and inclusive growth, unveiling innovative business and social impact investment opportunities, as well as generating more synergies between both innovation models. World Science Forum 2024
The World Science Forum is one of the most ambitious conference series worldwide. Every two years, scientist from all over the world, gather for the World Science Forum with focus on the social and economic relevance, influence and responsibilities of science. The GYA has been part of the WSF Steering Committee since 2019; for the 2024 meeting, Immediate Past Co-Chair Priscilla Kolibea Mante will represent the GYA and young scientists worldwide. Learn more.

GYA Annual General Meeting
The 2025 GYA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and International Conference of Young Scientists will take place in Hyderabad, India from 10-13 June 2025.
The meeting will be hosted by the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS), and co-organised by the GYA, INYAS and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), and the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. Learn more.
