Hi,

We used variants to produce help for a beta product. This product is
now going to release and we need the content from the variant to be
available in the original topic. We must keep the orginal topic ID for
linking purposes. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Larry and Rachelle

Hi,

It sounds like either I don't understand what the problem is or it is not an optimal implementation of variants.

Let's assume that you have a variant for the version called v_Ver and a bunch of topics at version 1.0. For the beta version, you can use v_Ver = 1.0b, and then the next version is v_Ver = 2.0.

As long as you set up the fallback path correctly, this works great:
1.0
---> 1.0b
      -----> 2.0

When you publish with v_Ver=2.0, any topic that has a 2.0 version is used. If there is no 2.0 version, then it will use the 1.0b version and so on.

HTH,
Phil
