Hello all,

I have decided to publish some books in HTML Pages format. The
publishing takes place without any errors apart from one: it can't
find the AfterPublish.bat file. I am not sure whether this is related
or not, but the frame above the Contents frame on the left side does
not display anything. I think that's where access to the Index and
Search options should be displayed, right?

Any pointers for fixing this would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Debbie

Hi Debbie,
It is not actually an error-so your output should be fine, but it is
annoying to see :)
To resolve it...open your Web or HTML publishing profile (whichever one is
giving you the problem when publishing) and delete the AfterPublish.bat from
the Actions tab (last tab when you open it from properties-it should be
listed under the after publish actions).
That will resolve your problem.

Have fun!

Hi,
Sorry, I just read the rest of your email.
What version are you on?
There were issues with the default templates in certain builds of the 5.XX
chain where the default templates did not work in certain browsers without
some tweaking.
It was resolved in 5.4 (I think) and 5.5 for sure.

Hi,
I am using build 5.53 (build 5.5.255.xxxxx).
Thanks a lot for the pointer about getting rid of that error message.
I've fixed it. Of course, it didn't fix the display problems that I
wrote about. Same problem occurs in both Internet Explorer and in
Firefox.

Just a thought...did you add an Index object to your Book object and have it
set to automatically make index entries from objects on the web tab?
Author-it cannot publish to help correctly (with search and index) without
an Index object in the book.
(People that have not been authoring for HTML seems to miss this the first
time they try to publish to an HTML based format).
Turn off the Index from Word publishing if you don't want it, but not
including the Index will allow you to publish with no errors, but there will
be no Index and no Search as you described.

I hope this is it. Or you need to start looking at all of the Media Object
and HTML template mappings one by one. :)

Hi again,

I tried that before asking for help. It didn't make any difference. I
will try looking at all the mapping as you said, in the next day or
two. Will let you know how it goes. Sigh....

Thanks a lot, anyhow,

Debbie

Or, if you don't want an index in the HTML output (I know I don't - Search is much more useful, and the index makes the whole interface look like an oldfashioned .chm), just edit tab_toc.htm in your html pages template folder, and remove the line that looks something like:

<a class="selectedtab" href="index.htm" target="TOC">Index</a>

This will remove the Index tab from the tab bar, so even if an index is published, it won't appear in the interface.

Which TOC template are you using in the book and which book template?

I'm using customized templates for both that I created years and years
ago. They are not based on anything. I don't expect that I fiddled
with the Web tab of those templates, but cannot say for sure. The path
names of my folders have changed over the years - should I be checking
that sort of thing all over the place, or is the default always set to
C:\Program Files\Author-it 5\xxxxx ?

Hi all,

I've found the problem - all fixed now. The Index Media Object somehow
lost the mapping to the DHTML Frameset and associated files.

By the way, what is the best practice for switching over to the
(newer) Web Help templates? Do I have to import all the files in the
Web Templates publishing profile over to my existing library? And then
what?

Thanks,

Debbie
