Time:  Sunday, January 4, 2009, 15:00
Place:   CEIT Amphitheater

Referent: Dr. Masoud Najafi,

INRIA (French national research institute on Computer Science and on Control),

Rocquencourt, Le Chesnay, France

Thema: Scicos, a free and open-source graphical modeling and simulation environment

Abstract:

Scilab is a free and open-source software providing a scientific computing environment. Scilab has several toolboxes used in various fields such as control, signal processing, sparse systems, etc. An important toolbox of Scilab is Scicos (www.scicos.org). Scicos is a graphical environment used for modeling and simulation of hybrid dynamical systems.

If you are familiar with Matlab and Simulink, Scilab and Scicos are their open-source alternatives, respectively. They have been developed in INRIA and ENPC (Ecole national des ponts et des chaussees) in France.

Dr. Najafi has been involved in developing the Scicos software, in particular, in development of the Scicos simulator core and the integration of the Modelica language in the Scicos environment.  The Modelica language (www.modelica.org) is an object oriented programming language used for modeling hybrid physical systems.

In this presentation, we will have an overview over the Scilab/Scicos environment, then the structure and different parts of the Scicos software will be presented.  At the end, the Modelica language, its features and its integration in Scicos will be discussed.
