Anti-Oppression
Training and Workshop - Three free (for students) meals provided!
Interested in social equality and promoting it across campus? Do you think that
AU can do more to be inclusive and promote true diversity? The Unitarian
Universalist student group is hosting a anti-oppression training on February 5th
and 6th, run by two professional trainers.
Topics will include questions of self identity, how different groups are
treated on campus and how American University students can work to fight
racism, sexism, classism and homophobia. This two day workshop, lasting Friday
evening and Saturday, will build the knowledge, awareness and skills needed to
bring equality to campus. Those who attend will gain valuable experience and
skills useful for organizing around campus and community, classes related to
these topics, and for future careers. Activities will include viewing films and
discussing them, a "game" on how oppression works in society and
explorations in personal identity.
This training and workshop is a two day event, going from 5-9pm on Friday
February 5th and 10am to 5pm on February 6th. Dinner will be provided on
Friday, and breakfast, lunch and snacks on Saturday. Students from every group
across campus are encouraged to come to, as there are many different views on
what our campus's society looks like.
RSVP with your contact information and any dietary restrictions by Monday,
February 1st to bd9...@american.edu.
Spaces are limited!
Invite all your friends! We also encourage non-AU students to come, but do ask
they pay a $15, or what you can afford, donation to the costs of food.
