Spatial data for Victoria

Is there a Victorian equivalent of NSW's spatial web services where you can link to data such as the NSW base map and spatial imagery through a WMS link? I tried searching and frankly it seems terribly confusing.

Hi Iain,

I can't find anything on the VicMap web page which is a bit annoying, but if you crack open developer tools in your browser on their MapShare web viewer and turn on the aerials you can see the address to the imagery web server.

Try this address as a "WMS/WMTS" connection - "https://base.maps.vic.gov.au/service?SERVICE=WMTS&VERSION=1.0.0&REQUEST=GetCapabilities"

Use at your own discretion as I am unfamiliar with Vic DELWP and their copyright/usage terms of the service, but the service is public-facing and unsecured ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are WMS service links available through www.data.vic.gov.au for most Vicmap base layers, for example: https://discover.data.vic.gov.au/dataset/property-map-polygons-vicmap-property-simplified-1

 

The WMS connection for the linked example is: http://services.land.vic.gov.au/catalogue/publicproxy/guest/dv_geoserver/wms?SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetMap

My company, Pozi, uses the Vicmap Basemap service extensively in web map sites for Victorian municipalities.

We have a licensing arrangement with the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) for the basemap layer. Their aerial photo layer is also available for an additional cost, but we use other sources for our imagery.

Because the service is not locked down, it's great for prototyping. But if you're going to use it commercially, DELWP expects that you'll license it from them.
