Hi,
I have my entire project CRS set to EPSG:20256 - AGD66 / AMG zone 56

When I add a hires satellite image which is provided in EPSG:3857 - WGS 84 / Pseudo-Mercator, its is obviously offset.

If I reproject it using WARP (reproject) the process runs but the image remains at the same location …

And

If I Assign Projection the process fails with the following error:

 "GDAL command output:
ERROR 6: The JPEG driver does not support update access to existing datasets.
Process returned error code 255"

Can anyone please help me out I have wasted over 8 hours on this today.  I had it working until I had to rebuild the project from scratch as the layers were disorganised on the disk storage.

I don’t use QGIS enough to remember how I got it working last time.

I’m running QGIS Grenoble 3.38.2 with a fresh install today.  I’ve also tried under 3.34.10-Prizren LTR with same results.

I don’t understand why it is so hard to get a raster image layer to locate correctly.  One would think an import wizard might be worth it given the complexity/difficulty involved.

Thanks in advance

P

Hi Paul,

I often have CRS problems with satellite imagery. Not sure this is a recent development with QGIS as I don’t remember it being as big a problem in earlier versions.

Try re-starting QGIS and open either the satellite image or the 20256 layer, and add the next one to see which one might be causing the problem. The other option is to re-project everything to GDA94 zone 56 to see if there is a transformation problem.

Can be frustrating but it is important to know if it is a QGIS problem. Maybe ask an ARC user if they have similar problems with the files. Nyall will probably know. I have also had problems with what appears to be non- or partially compliant CRS descriptions in some files.

Cheers Grant

Hi Paul, if you can't update the existing JPG, try exporting it as a GeoTIFF first. You shouldn't have any problems assigning the projection to a GeoTIFF I don't think.

Cheers
John
